Home battery vs generator

The honest comparison: generators are cheaper per kWh of backup; batteries are better at everything else. A $3,000-$5,000 whole-home natural gas generator runs indefinitely through a multi-day outage - no battery at any price does that without solar recharge. But generators run on fuel that must be delivered or piped, need oil changes and exercised maintenance, take seconds to transfer, and produce 60-70 dB of noise while doing it.
